France 3-0 Honduras:

Between the drone that was said to have flown over the French training camp last week and the goal-line cameras that were employed, Honduras would probably argue that technology did them no favours against France.
Hell they didn’t even get a national anthem, such were the technical glitches seemingly occurring inside a pulsating Estadio Beira-Rio.
But then nor did the French and before there is too much sympathy for a team that denies dispatching an unmanned aircraft to spy on their opponents - one of the best stories of the tournament to date, it has to be said - it needs to be acknowledged that the Central American side only have themselves to blame for this defeat.

Their approach was anything but sophisticated. It was as over-physical as their reputation has long suggested and it certainly proved their undoing, with Wilson Palacios becoming embroiled in a 45-minute wrestling match with Paul Pogba and getting himself sent off in the process.
His second yellow card, earned for a stupid, stupid challenge on the towering Juventus midfielder inside the Honduran penalty area, amounted to the turning point in the match. There have been some controversial penalties in this tournament already but this was not one of them, Karim Benzema stepping up to secure the advantage France deserved.
The circumstances that surrounded what appeared to be Benzema’s second goal, before it was given as an own goal three minutes after the break, could be a source of argument long after this encounter concluded.
It was some half-volley Benzema produced in meeting a marvellous diagonal pass from Yohan Cabaye. But only after the ball bounced off the post and across the face of the goal and struck Noel Valladares, the Honduras goalkeeper, did it seemingly cross the line.
The problem was what then appeared on the big screens, courtesy of the German manufactured GoalControl system that was suddenly being employed for the first time in the history of the World Cup.
For players and spectators it was utterly confusing, the declaration that it was ‘no goal’ sparking wild celebration among the 10 men of Honduras until they suddenly discovered that GoalControl was not  finished.
The first judgement was clearly based on the ball’s flight across the goal before it reached Valladares, so a second judgement followed. ‘Goal,’ the big screen declared, Sando Ricci then awarding a goal he already given thanks to the buzzer that had presumably gone off in his ear the  moment the ball crossed the line.
